Comparing sizes before you buy? Start with our art prints and posters, large wall art prints and 24 x 36 posters.
Choosing the right poster size can feel tricky, especially when you want your art prints to look natural in your space. A wall poster size guide helps you decide on dimensions that work for your room, frame, and style. Whether you’re decorating with large posters, planning a movie poster display, or picking smaller decorative posters for a desk or bedroom, knowing common poster sizes will make the process simple.
Poster Size
Poster size matters because it affects how the artwork looks on your wall and how people view it. A print that’s too small can disappear, while a larger size might overwhelm your space. Standard poster sizes range from small desk-friendly prints to larger designs that can fill a wall. Before you print or buy, think about the location, the distance your audience will view it from, and the message you want to convey.
Movie Poster
Movie posters remain one of the most popular sizes for both collectors and decorative purposes. A standard movie poster is 24 x 36 inches. This size is eye catching, easy to frame, and works well in bedrooms, living rooms, and even offices. It’s also a common poster size used in advertisements, making it familiar and easy to work into your home decor.
Poster Design
Poster design goes beyond just choosing an image. Good posters use essential elements like text elements, fonts, and a color scheme that matches the room. Design elements such as width, length, and balance help the print look intentional. If you plan to create your own, always use high quality images and make sure the printing process supports high resolution images for the best result.
High Resolution Images
High resolution images are essential for posters of any size. A low quality image can look fine on a small screen but will blur when printed at a larger size. Always check the dimensions and resolution before printing. A high resolution image ensures your poster looks sharp and professional, whether it’s for decorative purposes, advertisements, or outdoor advertising.
Size Guide
A size guide can help you compare standard size posters with larger sizes. Commonly used poster sizes include:
-
Small: 11 x 17 inches (good for bulletin boards and small spaces)
-
Medium: 18 x 24 inches (popular size for art prints and decorative posters)
-
Large: 24 x 36 inches (the standard movie poster size)
-
Extra large: 27 x 40 inches (used in advertising and theaters)
Each size has its purpose. Decide based on the room, the wall space, and the distance the audience will view it from.
Print Size
The print size should match both the wall space and the frame you plan to use. If you want a perfect fit, measure your wall and leave enough space around the poster for balance. Larger size prints work well in modern living rooms, while smaller prints fit desks or bedrooms.
Essential Elements
When choosing the perfect poster size, keep these essential elements in mind:
-
The space you want to fill
-
The distance from which the poster will be viewed
-
The design elements such as text and color scheme
-
The print size compared to your frame size guide
These details help you create the right poster size for your room and style.
Frame Size Guide
A frame size guide is important for finishing your poster display. Frames not only protect your artwork but also enhance the design. Choose a frame that matches the dimensions of your poster or consider a larger frame with a mat to add breathing space. The right frame can make a poster look like finished artwork.
Common Poster Sizes
Some of the most common poster sizes include 11 x 17 inches, 18 x 24 inches, 24 x 36 inches, and 27 x 40 inches. These sizes are widely available, easy to print, and have matching frames ready to buy. Choosing from these common sizes will save you time and make it easier to find the perfect fit for your wall.
Poster Size Guide
Use a poster size guide as a reference before printing or buying. It helps you compare dimensions in inches and see the difference between a standard poster size and a larger size. This way you can plan how it will look on your wall and avoid mistakes.
Right Poster Size
The right poster size depends on your space and the style you want to create. A small poster works well for a desk or bedroom wall, while a larger size poster becomes a focal point in a living room. Think about your room, your furniture, and the effect you want to convey.
Best Poster Size
The best poster size is the one that fits your wall without crowding the space. If you’re unsure, start with medium sizes like 18 x 24 inches. They’re versatile and work in almost any room. For larger walls, a 24 x 36 inch print is a safe choice that’s both bold and easy to frame.
Common Sizes
Common sizes make printing and framing easier, so they’re a good option when you’re not sure what to choose. Stick with 11 x 17, 18 x 24, or 24 x 36 inches if you want the perfect balance between availability and visual impact.
