What resolution is needed for a high-quality A3 poster?

For optimal quality, especially for close viewing, an A3 poster should be designed at 300 DPI, which translates to approximately 3508 x 4961 pixels.

What are the pixel dimensions for an A3 poster at 150 DPI?

At 150 DPI, the minimum recommended pixel dimensions for an A3 poster are 2700 x 3600 pixels.

Why is bleed important for A3 poster printing?

Bleed is essential in commercial printing to ensure that your design extends to the very edge of the paper after trimming, preventing unwanted white borders.

What is the recommended bleed size for an A3 poster?

A standard 3mm bleed on all sides is recommended for A3 posters, increasing the canvas size for printing.

Can I use 72 DPI for an A3 poster?

No, 72-100 DPI is only suitable for digital display and will result in pixelated and low-quality output when printed as an A3 poster.

What are the full dimensions of an A3 poster including bleed?

With a standard 3mm bleed, the full dimensions for an A3 poster become approximately 3579 x 5031 pixels.

What DPI is acceptable if the A3 poster is viewed from a distance?

For A3 posters viewed from 1-2 meters or for internal drafts, 150 DPI (2700 x 3600 pixels) is generally acceptable.

Technical Requirements

For sharp, professional output, your A3 images need sufficient resolution. The minimum resolution suggested for printing an A3 poster is 2700 x 3600 pixels, or 150 DPI at 100% size. At the industry-standard 300 DPI, the recommended pixel dimensions for A3 are approximately 3508 x 4961 pixels for the printable area. This ensures your poster avoids pixelation and maintains crisp detail. When you add a standard 3mm bleed on all sides (essential for commercial printing), the dimensions expand to 3579 x 5031 pixels.

Acceptable DPI ranges depend on viewing distance and application:

300 DPI (approximately 3508 x 4961 pixels): Required for close-up viewing, photographic quality, and commercial print
150 DPI (2700 x 3600 pixels): Acceptable for posters viewed from 1-2 meters or internal drafts
72-100 DPI: Only suitable for digital display, never for print
